Antique Fulani Peul bridal necklace ( Beginning XXth Century)

Ref: KTOU17

Antique Fulani Peul bridal necklace composed of hundreds of ancient glass beadsand shells strung on copper wire.

These gorgeous, coloured necklaces are worn by both Fulani as well as Peul women at wedding ceremonies.

These beautiful glass beads were produced in Europe from the start to the middle of the 1900s and were taken to Africa by colonial trade routes in exchange for local goods.

As the largest nomadic group in the world the Fulani consist of mostly traders, known for having an immense respect for beauty. This is reflected in their jewellery.
