Beautiful, antique Afghan men's ring (early 1900)

Ref: KPIE23

Beautiful, antique Afghan men's ring - early 1900.

These rings, handmade and enamelled, were mainly worn by men from socially rich families or by people recognised as important and powerful within the society of the time.

In these rings the most important features are the decoration of the shank, the enamels (almost disappeared) and the bezel.

In this ring we find a beautiful ruby red colour, one of the most important colours in the East together with green. It is not a stone but an emerald-cut glass. In this era and in these countries, coloured glass was a precious commodity: it was used in trade (as Venice did with murrine) and in political negotiations. Whoever possessed it (given the scarcity) was considered even more important.
