Tara Brooch - one of the most ancient Celtic symbols

The Tara brooch is a celtic brooch of about 700AD. It is generally considered to be the most impressive of over 50 elaborate Irish Brooches.

It was found in August 1850 on the beach of Bettystown, Co. Meath.

The finder, a woman and her two sons found it in a box buried in he sand and sold it to a Dublin Jeweller who named it "Tara Brooch".

It now resides in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin.​
